#DefinaMulher
/ for the end of negative words
Have you ever looked up the word “woman” in the dictionary?
If you search for the meaning of “woman”, “girl” or “lady” in the dictionary, you will basically find derogatory terms and stereotypes. “Lady of the evening,” “call girl,” “fallen woman” and “chick,” among other awful examples. In order to question it and bring about changes in this chauvinistic and old-fashioned setting, we connected to diverse women who have different backgrounds, professions and come from different parts of Brazil so that, together, we could think out the #RedefinaMulher project.
This movement was started for the purpose of rethinking the literal and broader meaning of the word “woman,” thus raising awareness about how society sees us. We started up with an organic Instagram account and brought together female designers, graphic artists, artists and creators who make activist content to build the community and amplify the message.
Women Are Power and Resistance.
We promoted a program curated by women to encourage debates pertaining to the subject. A series of workshops, gatherings and experiences to produce insights and self-knowledge.
Based on what we learned, we created the dictionary entitled Novos Verbetes Femininos (New Female Dictionary Entries): the printed representation of the rich process these women who took up the leading role in their journeys went through.
The project that was conceived, created, published and led by women. It was built collectively, by the hands of outstandingly talented and powerful women. It created opportunities and fostered new possibilities to develop each of these opportunities.
